ABOUT MATCH RACING @ ROYALVAN

RVYC’s Match Racing Program began in January 2012 with a goal of promoting match racing within the Club and to encourage members to enhance their racing skills by competing in local and North American match racing regattas. As the program continues to grow, close racing is available to watch right off the Club’s breakwater and members can join the program to participate in some of the most exciting racing available at the RVYC.

Exciting to participate in and watch, there is no better way to raise your game than a one-on-one fight to the finish. Match racing requires the fundamentals of a fleet racer, the tactics of a chess master, and the teamwork of a Nascar pit crew. In less than twenty minutes teams will have completed a boxing match-like pre-start, two spinnaker sets and douses, and enough tacks and gybes to tire a marathon runner. Participating in match racing will improve all aspects of your sailing.
