Community Connections

  • Charity on the Water
    • Special Children's Cruise

This unique event is a fun morning for children with special needs to have the opportunity to get out on the water and enjoy all the things that boaters enjoy. Aboard the MV Britannia, children and their caregivers/teachers from many schools in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley cruise False Creek, English Bay, and Coal Harbour. RVYC is grateful to the 15th Field RCA Band, personnel from Vancouver Fire & Rescue, the Armed Forces for their volunteer participation, and also to the generous sponsors who enable RVYC to continue this valuable community outreach programme. Cancelled for 2020 through 2022, RVYC was very happy to welcome the smiling faces of the children and their support teams back again in June of 2023.

      Boat for Hope

RVYC is proud to support Variety The Children's Charity's annual Boat for Hope event in Vancouver. In the words of the charity, Boat for Hope raises "significant funds through the skippers plus corporate and community partners, while at the same time, providing a one-of-a-kind experience for children and their families."

      HISTORICALLY
      Leukemia Cup

RVYC joined forces with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Canada to organise and host the Leukemia Cup Regatta over the last couple of years. A unique event for aficionados of all kinds of on-the-water activities, this fundraiser welcomes sailors, powerboaters, as well as paddlers into the mix. The winner is not crowned for fastest trip around the buoys, it's the team who raises the most funds in support of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Canada that takes home the coveted Leukemia Cup. While RVYC will no longer be hosting this event in the future, we unequivocally support the work and mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada and encourage anyone interested in the organisation to check them out for more information.

      Easter Seals Charity Regatta

Over the course of its run, RVYC was privileged to support the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities in hosting the Easter Seals Charity Regatta. While the regatta is no longer, Easter Seals House Vancouver and the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities carry on and you can support them in their important work by visiting BC Lions Society and Easter Seals House.

  • Clean Marine Certification
    • Our Jericho Marina proudly flies the Green Marine BC flag and enjoys a 5-anchor rating. Our Home Port at Coal Harbour in Stanley Park was awarded the 4-Anchor rating by the Georgia Strait Alliance. We have also done the same at our seven Offshore Stations and all are Green Marine certified (one has 5 anchors with all others 4).

      Environmental Stewardship

In June 2020 Coal Harbour Marina installed a Seabin, made from recyclable materials, which skims the surface of the water by pumping water into the device. It is able to catch an estimated 3.9 kg of floating debris per day (depending on weather and debris volumes), including microplastics as small as 2 mm! We are proud to be the first marina on mainland BC to install a Seabin.

No more plastic bottles at regattas! We installed a water station on our One Design dock. Competitors from far and wide using our Jericho marina for regatta events are encouraged to bring their own refillable bottles. Our dinghy regattas even provide refillable bottles at a nominal cost so that everyone is in a position to help us reduce plastic waste.

  • Eco Practices at the Clubhouse
    • RVYC is proud to participate in composting programmes, buys produce and food products locally, seasonally, and from sustainable sources wherever and whenever possible. We also grow our own herbs and supplement as needed from local suppliers.

While not formally partnered with Ocean Wise at this time, RVYC makes every effort to heed the Ocean Wise Seafood Program's recommendations for sustainable seafood options during menu development.

      Ocean Ambassadors Canada

Turning the tide of marine pollution
RVYC has partnered with the not-for-profit Ocean Ambassadors Canada in support of the crucial work to ensure not only the survival of ocean ecosystems, but to inspire environmental stewardship into the future. This includes single-use reduction initiatives with business communities to decrease the amount of garbage going into waterways, speaker series to provide insightful and evidence-based information, and school programs and summer camps to encourage the leaders of tomorrow to educate them about the threat of plastics, develop their own relationships with the flora and fauna of the water, and empowering them to make real change.

      Marine Parks Forever Society

An all-volunteer registered non-profit founded by the Council of BC Yacht Clubs, Marine Parks Forever Society is committed to acquiring lands in order to secure their protection by designating the areas as marine parks and protecting the abundant flora and fauna they nourish underwater, in intertidal zones, and on land. RVYC is a member of the BC Council of Yacht Clubs and immensely proud to support the society to advocate for and financially support the creation, expansion, and enhancement of marine parks within British Columbia.

The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club is situated on unceded, traditional and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam),
