  • About Scott Point
    • Located in Long Harbour on Saltspring Island, 37 nm SW from Jericho Home Port, this outstation has long been a favourite with yacht club families. It comprises a 150' x 450' waterlot, protected by a breakwater, providing 2,600' of dock space with 30 amp power. The Club’s two webcams keep members apprised of how much dock space is available during daylight hours. There is an area for half-court basketball, volleyball, bocce, throwing horseshoes, and then a kids’ playground, all centring down to the table tennis, pool and pavilion area. There are a couple of short hiking trails on the property to explore. After any and all storms, please keep a weather eye out for downed trees and items thrown about by wind gusts and advise the Station Managers of any potential hazards you spot.

Wi-Fi is available in the cabins and marina.

While some kids energetically use the pools and playground during the day, others consider it a great time for kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing a Laser, borrowing a bicycle, or just being a wharf rat messing around with boats! For clean-up, Scott Point has two warm outdoor showers just outside the washroom and laundry building. “Level access” to the docks was added in 2021 by a floating ramp at the boat launch, now allowing wheelbarrows, wheelchairs, and others direct access from a vessel.

Saltspring Island is accessible by ferry and seaplane in addition to being a draw for cruisers. The island offers many services: grocery stores, restaurants, hospital, wineries, craft beer. Taxi service is available to stores and the farmers’ market nearby in Ganges. That Scott Point now sees increased rentals of the four A-frame cabins year-round is an attestation to the enjoyments available there. There are also three tent pads that members can reserve on the Club website for free.

Fresh potable water is available on the docks and there is also a pump-out facility. The Club desalinates all the summer water, so it is costly to produce; hence the no boat washing rule.

      SAFETY
The dock has a Spill Kit, pike poles and firefighting equipment, including a generator-run emergency pump.
      * The pavilion’s First Aid room/Station Manager’s office (attached to the kitchen) is the location of the First Aid kit, AED, oxygen, and fire extinguishers.
      * Child and Adult Epi pens are located outside of the washrooms and laundry facilities.
      * The First Aid room has a phone for emergency uses only.
      * The primary Muster Station is on the dock below the main ramp at the sign-in shed (PLEASE ALWAYS SIGN IN WHEN AT SCOTT POINT).
There is information posted at the sign-in location/muster station giving your location and what to do in the event of an emergency.
      * A phone is available in the sign-in shed for personal calls. This phone CANNOT be used for emergency calls as it is internet based. 9-1-1 is unable to track your location on this phone.
      * A secondary Muster Station is located outside of the First Aid Room.
      * For members and guests renting cabins: please be aware of the location of emergency equipment in your cabin as well as evacuation routes in the event of a fire.

  • Rules For Scott Point
    • The General Rules for Offshore Stations apply with the following specific to station additions:

      1. Members shall not exceed five knots within Long Harbour and must always attempt to minimise their wake. This rule shall not apply to dinghies, provided they are operated in a quiet, safe, and courteous manner,
      2. In order to optimise safe use of the floats the following moorage restrictions apply:
        a. Floats A to G must be kept open for vessels under 50' LOA until all other dock space is full; A is primarily used for tender storage. Due to the shallowness of the inside of E dock, large-keeled vessels with deep draught are encouraged to tie up stern-out. As soon as suitable space becomes available, vessels 50' LOA and over must move to floats H, J, or K;
        b. Floats H, J, and K, must be kept open for vessels 50' LOA and over until all other dock space is full. As soon as suitable space becomes available, vessels under 50' LOA must move to floats A through G;
        c. Members shall not leave vessels unattended overnight at the ends of floats A-K unless at the time of the member’s departure no other space is available;
        d.  If vessels occupying the ends of floats prevent, or make hazardous, entry to vacant berths within they must, if requested, temporarily leave their mooring to enable the arriving vessel to safely moor, or alternatively move forward to allow the vessel to moor behind them. Vessels temporarily leaving may then return to their original berth.
      3. Vehicle parking is limited and therefore restricted to designated areas.
      4. Campers, house trailers, and motor homes are not permitted.
      5. Limited space is available for boat trailers that may only be stored at the discretion of the Captain Offshore Stations.
      6. Cabins are available on a “first come” basis to Active, Intermediate, Special, Life, Post-Secondary and Hon. Life (collectively, “eligible”) members. Each eligible member may only book one cabin for a maximum of one week during the period of May 15 to September 15 and must be in attendance either in the cabin or a vessel under their control which is moored at Scott Point.
      7. a. Reservation requests can be made directly through the Station Manager by calling 1.250.537.5033 or by email at [email protected]. Reservation requests for the high season months are done by online lottery. Information on when the lottery opens, the period of time it covers, and when the draw will be held will be announced by the Captain Offshore Stations in Seabreeze, and/or electronic newsletters. Reservations for weeks not allocated via lottery open January 2 at 1000 hrs, unless announced otherwise in Seabreeze and/or electronic newsletters. Due to the spottiness of rural internet connectivity, if you have not received a response to an emailed request within three business days, please follow up.
        b. For information and up-to-date cabin availability, check the Royal Van website at www.royalvan.com, log on, and view Scott Point Cabin Bookings under the OFFSHORE STATIONS tab. Available cabins and dates are posted at 1000 hrs on Mondays and Thursdays.
      8. Members are responsible for payment for the reserved period unless a cancellation notice is received thirty days prior to the first date reserved or the cabin is re-rented. Cabins cannot be booked more than six (6) months ahead of time unless they are included in the annual Scott Point Cabin Lottery.
      9. The Board of Directors will determine cabin rental rates.
      10. No linen or bedding is provided.
      11. Cottages must be left clean and orderly.
        a. A member booking accommodation who leaves it without cleaning will be assessed a $200.00 cleaning fee. On the second offense, the member is assessed $200.00 and may be blocked from booking accommodation for the next 12 months. They will receive a letter from the Captain Offshore Stations advising of the same.
      12. Members are responsible for all damages and shortages.
      13. The swimming pool is operated in the summer months during posted hours. No lifeguard is on duty and children must be supervised. Children who are not toilet trained are not allowed in the pool. Pets are not allowed in the pool area.
      14. No boat washing using fresh water is permitted at the station without the permission of the Captain Offshore Stations. Water supply is limited as it relies on a desalinator. Keep showers short and replenish water tanks responsibly as a courtesy to others.
      15. Garbage and recyclable materials must be deposited in designated receptacles. Garbage and recycle service is restricted for use by transient boaters moored at the Scott Point outstation. Please read the posted signage that clearly describes recycling available. Many items are unable to be recycled on this island.
      16. Three (3) tent pads are available on a first-come booking basis to Active, Intermediate, Post-Secondary, Special, Life, and Honorary Life members. Each eligible member may book one (1) tent pad for up to seven (7) consecutive days.
      17.   Tents are not provided and the largest tent size the gravel-lined space can accommodate is 16' x 16'
      18.   Tent pad area must be left clean and orderly.

  • Scott Point Important Information
    • Dock Space

There is a lot of dock space at Scott Point. However, Members should still try to minimise space between vessels when space is getting tight. Try to keep ‘H’, ‘J’, ‘K’ docks for larger vessels until other space has been used. ‘A’ dock is for dinghies and tenders which should not be tied to main docks. Please keep the end of ‘A’ dock free for floatplane access. There is a gravel and mud boat launch located at the south end of the marina. However, there is very limited storage for boat trailers. Anyone wishing to store a boat trailer must first contact the Station Manager.

      Cabins

Four A-frame cottages are available for rent by Members. Cabins are equipped with kitchenettes, shower, utensils. Members must bring their own linen. Members should consult the Yearbook for rules (see bottom of page).
The cabins are available year-round, and the autumn, winter, as well as blustery springs can bring surprises with them. The power can go out at any time, sometimes for a few hours and sometimes for days at a time. When the power goes out, there is no water to the property (cabins and all outbuildings) included. Once power has been restored, the system can be reset. Pipes have been known to freeze, despite our best efforts. In a pinch, the wood fireplace in the Pavilion could be used for warmth and the BBQs for cooking.

      Full cabin details here.

      Laundry

There are two washers and dryers at the west end of the Washroom Building provided at no cost to members. Members should limit their use of the machines when others are waiting and promptly remove their laundry when it is finished.

      Parking

There is a small parking lot. Park in designated areas only. If the parking lot is full, please park along Scott Point Drive.

      Dogs

Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times and are not allowed in the Pool or Pavilion areas. Owners must clean up after their pets. There is a park located at the Long Harbour Ferry Terminal, 600 metres away.

      Fire

In an emergency, please dial 9-1-1.
Scott Point is a very dry place, especially in the summer and fire is always a hazard. There is no smoking anywhere on the property and members should inform guests and teenagers of the dangers from fire. Water barrels are located around the property and there are two Fire Pumps (Registration Shed at head of dock ramp and in the Pool Pump House). There is a fire department on the island.

      First Aid

In an emergency, please dial 9-1-1.
There is a First Aid kit, AED, and oxygen bottle on site located in the Station Manager’s office in the Pavilion. There is a hospital with an Emergency room located in Ganges.

      Water

Even with a watermaker, water is a precious commodity in the Gulf Islands and must be conserved at all times. Please keep showers short and limit the amount of water when filling boat tanks. There is no boat washing at any time.

      Washrooms

Please use the washrooms located ashore. There is a separate building with ladies’ and men’s washrooms and two showers. There is an additional washroom, with bathtub, located in the Pavilion.

      Pavilion

The Pavilion is an area for relaxation and shelter from the rain. It has a wood fireplace as well as a small kitchen for use by Members and communal BBQs. Please clean up after use, wash all dishes and remove food from the fridge. Children should be kept under control.

      Telephone

There are telephones located in the Registration Shed at the top of the main ramp and in the Pavilion. Please keep calls short. Long-distance calls are restricted to calling cards or operator assistance. The Station Manager does not take messages.
